Most of the other X-pat couples we know end up going to places like Koh Samet or Pattaya for those long weekends. Personally we find Samet to have gotten a bit pricey and over developed in recent years and needless to say why we don't favor Pattaya.

Hua Hin however, although a lot of people are familiar with it, often overlook it for a weekend getaway destination. We quite like it though. Other than the obvious beach attraction, they recently opened a new shopping mall which is very nice and just about a kilometer out of the central area and has lots of places to eat. There is also the night market which is fun for a stroll in the evening. There are also a number of nice spas. We also enjoy stopping at the Fly-Now outlet store on the way back to Bangkok. So we seem to manage to fill the weekend quite easily with things to do without even going golfing.

If you have a car readily available while you are there it is fun to take a short drive down to the Supatra By The Sea restaurant at the end of the beach along the ocean where you can see monkeys playing and swimming in the sea.
